I moved to Florida in 1974 to teach, but was laid off in 1975. Who remembers the recession of 1975-76? Eventually, my math degree landed me at job at Martin Marietta. I worked for several more companies in the area, developing software for simulation and training devices.
In 2000, after another contract ended, I was ready for a change. In 2001, I started tutoring for a local tutoring center while I was trying to decide what to do. I rediscovered my love of teaching, and in 2002 decided to start my own tutoring service. I began operating under the name of Wise Owl Tutoring in 2003, and we've been growing steadily since.
Meanwhile, running was slowly becoming a more important part of my life. Paul, my fiance, was my chief supporter. He urged me on to attain goals I never dreamed I could. After he passed away from cancer, I turned to running and to ease my grief. The running kept me more strongly connected to Paul, and writing about Paul kept him more alive in my heart.
Those two activities have come together in a couple of ways. First, I completed a marathon in every state in May, 2010, with a total marathon count of 79. Second, I'm seeking publication of my book about running (and Paul), The View From the Back of the Pack. Watch for it to be released soon.
