I’m currently working on a
memoir, The View From the Back of the Pack, which begins with my
thirty-four-year-old, sedentary body attempting to run one mile, and
ends with
a total of 79 marathons.
I don’t know what it’s like
to be a lead runner, or even a middle-of-the-pack runner. I’ve always
expected
to be in the last group of runners, and I’ve never been disappointed.
The lead
runners have time to shower, change, eat, and return for the awards
ceremony
before I make it to the finish line. But finish I do (most of the
time). Persistence pays off. I’ve completed a
marathon in every state, and I’m on the way to 100 marathons.
Through my journey, I’ve
learned about myself and distance running, I’ve met wonderful people,
and I’ve
seen places I wouldn’t have otherwise. Come along for the ride and see
what fun
it is!
The View From the Back of
the Pack will be released soon.
Meanwhile, a glimpse into my story can be found in Chicken Soup for
the
Soup: Runners, in book stores July 13, 2010.
